Trials for Women’s Football Academy and Lincoln City Women to be held in April.

Updated: Jul 14, 2021

Lincoln City Foundation and Lincoln City Women are partnering up to give Lincolnshire women aged 15-18 a fantastic opportunity on the pitch.

Lincoln City Foundation launched its Lincoln City Football Academy for Women last year, giving local girls a chance to pursue their dreams of a career on the pitch. Recruited academy players will be on a full-time 2-year scholarship accessing at least 12 hours of training and support each week from UEFA B qualified Lincoln City coaches, whilst representing the Lincoln City FC in regional and national competitions.

Starting in time for September 2021, this will form an integral part of the female player pathway, with the added value of industry expertise. Academy players will be studying towards a Level 3 Extended Diploma (equivalent to 3 A-Levels), ensuring they not only excel on the pitch but also underpin that skill with knowledge about the sport that could lead to a career on or off the pitch.

Lincoln City Foundation are connected into a professional football network, including some of the top women’s football teams in the UK to generate scouting opportunities for players to allow them to excel in their footballing career after they have graduated from the academy.

With the recent success of our women’s national team, women’s football is finally starting to get the recognition it deserves, and the sports establishments everywhere are becoming more diverse. There has never been a better time for girls everywhere to be considering a career in Sport.

Teaming up with Lincoln City Women for the trials mean that girls aged 15 – 18 get the opportunity to try out for both Lincoln City Football Academy for Women and The Lincoln City Women’s development squad, maximising their chance for success.

Despite the current Lincoln City Women season curtailed as a result of the pandemic, the women’s side have gone from strength to strength over the recent years and are quickly becoming a side to watch.

Lincoln City Women FC has evolved over the period of time since the Clubs conception in 2008. For the start of 2012/13 season they gained promotion as league champions and we were duly promoted to the East Midlands Women’s Football League Premier Division, where they competed until 2017/18 season.

Another title-winning season was followed by their first season at Tier Four of the women’s football pyramid in 2018/19 and have continued to dominate the Lincolnshire Women’s Senior County Cup by winning it in each of the last six seasons.

The summer of 2019 was a landmark in the development of the Club as a successful name change to Lincoln City Women FC meant a total rebranding for the 2019/20 season and a change of Club colours to the famous red and white stripes.

Trials are being held on 13th April at 6pm on the 3G at the LNER Stadium.
