Match Report: Lincoln City A VS Barnsley

A clinical Barnsley side beat Lincoln city 3-0

On Wednesday 9th February Lincoln city faced Barnsley at the LNER stadium. It was a good day for a football match with the weather conditions going in our favour. The boys started the game really well which set the tempo early.

Obie was very solid and won a lot of battles in the midfield which then allowed him to play in the strikers. This limited Barnsley to very few chances in the first 15 minutes. However, the opposition started to gain control of the game which put a strain on our defence. Liam Powell made some great saves to deny Barnsley, however, just before halftime ended they slotted 2 well-deserved goals past our number one.

In the 2nd half, the lads came out with a really positive attitude and attacked a lot more. It was a game we nearly got back into with Danny crane attempting an overhead kick. Barnsley won a free-kick just outside the penalty area and the player took the opportunity and executed it well leading to them being 3-0 up.

Despite this, the lincoln boys kept their heads in the game and still managed to put a hundred percent into their performance. In the last 10 minutes, lincoln won a penalty which Jack Powell bravely stepped up to take it. Unfortunately, the penalty was put wide.

Having previously faced Barnsley and losing by a wide margin, the boys can definitely take this performance and be proud of it When we come back from the half term the lads should be positive and use this confidence to take into their next game well done boys!!
