Love Local: What I Love about Lincolnshire.

By Alice Carter - Head of Healthier Communities

Alice Carter shares with us some of the things she loves most about her home county.

Best Place to Spend a Saturday Morning

Boultham Park, situated south of Lincoln city centre, is a beautiful place for all to enjoy with woodland paths, a lake, café, play park and historic bandstand. My favourite feature is however Lincoln park run which takes place every Saturday morning. It is a joy to be part of a community of people walking, jogging, or running a weekly 5k and seeing the park filled with active people amongst friends.

Favourite Running Route

As a runner, I have explored a lot of the City of Lincoln on foot, weaving around well-known routes and streets, but my favourite place to run is the Water Railway. The Water Railway trail links Lincoln to Boston and is perfect for running, cycling, or walking. The route follows the River Witham taking in a wonderful array of nature, as well as a range of art installations along the way. At 33 miles in length, there are plenty of sections to explore!

Favourite Beach

The miles of uninterrupted sand we are treated to along Lincolnshire's coastline is an absolute delight! My favourite place for a beach trip is however Anderby Creek, a beautiful and quiet beach away from some of the more crowded coastal tourist attractions. You can stroll for as long as you like along the sand, find a spot to sit (and build a sandcastle!) and stop at Anderby Beach Café for a bite to eat in your very own beach hut!

Best Kept Secret

A friend introduced me to Aubourn Weir last summer, and I was amazed by this little spot, accessed from the village of Aubourn located south of the City of Lincoln. With the backdrop of water running peacefully over rocks, it's the ideal place for a stroll and picnic, with the added option to cool off with a paddle in the water. On a hot summers day, it's perfect!
