As a new Friend of the Foundation, Leonardo will focus their support on the development of girls’ football skills for the year ahead.
Sport can act as a dynamic platform to build young people’s confidence and life skills and it forms the focus of the latest friend to join the Lincoln City Foundation, global security company Leonardo. The company is investing in support to develop the football skills of girls in the community, not only to increase their fitness, but to leave them with a skill set that will help them to fulfil their potential in their future professional lives.
It is an approach that is fully supported by the head of the Leonardo Lincoln Academy, Jamie Garbutt.
Jamie said: “The skills you build in football are very similar to those we apply in our daily working lives. Working as a part of a team, responding quickly to emerging requirements and maintaining your poise under pressure. For many years Leonardo has sought to increase the number of female engineers across the UK and we feel that sport is just as valid a route through which professional skills can be built. We’re proud to be involved in an initiative that aligns with our company's values of promoting diversity, health and wellbeing and we’re really excited about our new partnership with Lincoln City Foundation.”
Through Leonardo’s generous donation, the Foundation can continue to support young girls who want to get into football, for health reasons or just for the pure fun of the game! The girls’ development pathway, supported by Leonardo, now operates several times a week as the sessions continue to grow in popularity. Many of the girls on the pathway will be considering opportunities to progress into the Lincoln City Academy, while all will look forward to improve their life skills and confidence.
Foundation chief executive Martin Hickerton added: “We are delighted to have Leonardo on board as a ‘Friend of the Foundation’ for 2024/25. As a company who continue to make a big difference nationally and also in the local community, we have a lot in common! This generous step will ensure even more young people across our county are supported as the learn and grow – through the power of football.”
