Golf Equipment Donated to aid people with Dementia.

Lincoln City Foundation partnered with BBC Radio Lincolnshire as part of the Kit Out the Nation Campaign this year. The campaign focused on local Lincolnshire people gifting their old or unused sports kit and equipment so that people less fortunate could use them.

The Lincolnshire people did not let us down and 100’s of donations were dropped off at the Lincoln City Foundation Offices for distribution across Lincolnshire. Amongst the donations, we were gifted lots of fantastic golf equipment in really good condition, and our team knew just the cause to donate it to.

Golf in Society is a session delivered at a golf complex just outside Lincoln. Their Wednesday morning session is designed specifically for people living with dementia. Lincoln City Foundation’s Head of Healthier Communities, Kerry Swarbrooke-Coy popped over last week to meet volunteers Graham and Ian, and to drop off our golfing donation. After catching up on all the amazing things the group does to support people living with dementia, they even let Kerry test out her skills on the course.

Kerry Continues

“I met Graham and Ian who give their time to help those living with Dementia the opportunity to still enjoy a get together on the green. One of the participants ‘George’ who is living with dementia is also a fellow left-hander and although was coy when discussing his golf handicap with me; he did let me have a loan of his putter”

Anthony Blackburn, Founder, set up Golf in Society inspired by his fathers love of the sport. The group supports not only families living with dementia but also participants with Parkinson’s, loneliness, depression or a history of stroke.

Volunteer Graham continues,

“I took over looking after the group when the former volunteer sadly passed away. Working with people living with dementia is rewarding as I get to help them to still experience their love of golf. We are overwhelmed by this donation and will ensure it is put to good use.
We hope to get more people to the session as they slowly start to come out and about again”

Thank you to everyone who supported the Kit Out the Nation campaign, thanks to you people across the county will gain access to a sport they could not before. Impacting not only their physical wellbeing but their mental and social wellbeing as well.

We are continuing to distribute the donations to worthy causes and people in need across Lincolnshire. If you think you know someone who could benefit from a donation of sports kit please email enquires@lincolncityfoundation.co.uk
