Foundation supports student to secure dream placement

Congratulations to Alex Tatner who has secured a year long placement at Pompey In The Community, the affiliated charity to Portsmouth FC, of whom he has supported since the age of six.

Alex, a Sports Business Management student at University of Lincoln, joined the universities mentoring programme during the second year of his studies, where he was partnered with Lincoln City Foundation Director, Charlotte Hornsby in October 2021. Since their initial meetings, Charlotte has worked with Alex to build his confidence and connections in the industry, perfect his CV, and identify personal drivers and ambitions, with possible pathways to success.

In December, Alex joined the Lincoln City matchday team working in the fan zone at LNER Stadium, helping raise the profile of the charity’s activities and their impact in Lincolnshire.

Alex said:

“I want to say a huge thank you for all the support I have received from Charlotte and the Foundation team, and for the career experience opportunities they have provided.

“Alongside the employment role on a matchday, the quality of the time the team have given me has been amazing, as has Charlotte’s efforts in supporting me outside of this role as I explore placement opportunities. I have felt valued beyond belief and felt trusted and confident enough to take on this new opportunity at Portsmouth.”

Charlotte said:

“Alex approached the mentoring programme in a very open way, with no expectations, other than to learn and grow. It has been a pleasure to see the difference in him since we first met in the autumn, and I am thrilled to have been able to support his progression into the world of sport and business.
