10-Year-Old Charlie Raises a Fantastic £766 for The Foundation….and Counting

When the Foundation launched its Festive Foundation Challenge last month, there was one boy who saw it and dreamt bigger.

In November Lincoln City Foundation launched their Festive Foundation Challenge, which asked people to walk a mile a day on the run-up to Christmas so that by the time they reached Christmas eve they will have walked a whole marathon. The challenge aimed to get people active in a month that often sees people retreat to the indoors. Physical activity is not only important for physical health but also mental health and wellbeing too. Exercise realises important endorphins provide to enhance your mood and help to combat Seasonal Effective Disorder. After a tricky year for everyone, it has never been more important to dedicate more time to your mental health. 10-year-old Charlie, who plays for the Foundations under 10’s advanced team, was inspired by this challenge so decided to take it on, with a difference. Charlie set himself the challenge to run every mile whilst raising money for Team Foundation at the same time. Initially setting himself the target of raising £500, Charlie smashed that within the first few days of his challenge. He has since changed his target to £1000, in which his dad has promised to run his final mile with him on Christmas eve in fancy dress if he reaches his goal!

When asked earlier what inspires Charlie, he gave us 3 amazing reasons.

“Three things inspire me, Marcus Rashford, my dad and because I play for Lincoln City Foundation and really want to help” Charlie has done an amazing job so far, not only exceeding his monetary target but also his distance to, often racking up 2 miles and further in one night. We have had some very cold, rainy and windy nights the past few weeks and Charlie has battled through them all to reach his goal. Amy Kay, Football Development Officer for Lincoln City Foundation had this to say, “We were absolutely thrilled when we found out that Charlie had taken on this challenge and had decided to fundraise for our charity. The money raised will go the help fund the health and wellbeing projects that we run throughout Lincolnshire and will make a difference to so many local people. Charlie has displayed some fantastic team spirit and has really embraced what #TeamFounation is all about. We couldn’t be prouder of everything he is achieving.” Charlies coaches surprised him with some treats this week to say thank you for his outstanding effort, as he continues with his challenge.
